My name is Levita Diane Mondie, and I started the blog Vita’s Vegan Ventures to share the joys, benefits, and how-to’s of ethnic vegan cuisine, including Soul Food, Mexican, Italian, Indian, Ghanaian and even more. Here I share recipes, tips, reflections, and other resources that will help make incorporating life-affirming foods into your everyday lifestyle simple, fun, and delicious.
Vita’s Vegan Ventures is a combination of vegan cooking services, including hands-on cooking lessons, cooking demonstrations, lectures, and catering for small groups. Through Vita’s Vegan Ventures, I get to share over 15 years of experience veganizing traditional recipes, i.e. preparing dishes with alternatives to meat, cow’s milk, and eggs. For more, explore all of the links on the home page of this blog .
I invite you to follow this blog, try out the recipes, share your vegan experiences, or ask a thoughtful question. I especially appreciate opportunities to help readers veganize recipes.
I am glad we found each other!
Hi Vita,
We met last Wednesday evening at Peacefood Café in NYC–I’m the waitress with the vegetarian food blog. It was a pleasure meeting you, and I’m loving your blog. I’m also very impressed and inspired by Vita’s Eatery. Congratulation on all of your success.

Say hi to everyone there. Let’s stay in touch. Let me know when you’re in the D.C. area.
Hi Levita, I hope you are well.
I have been hearing a lot in the media recently about the health benefits of eating black rice. I don’t recall ever seeing this in the grocery store, and am not sure if I would even like it. Can you recommend any easy recipes that would incorporate this ingredient?
Thanks,
Andrew.
Thank you, Andrew, for giving me the opportunity to explore black rice. Please read my response, complete with some history, benefits, and culinary uses of black rice in the blog entry Black Rice, “The Forbidden Rice” . Please let me know how your adventures with this super food turn out!

Hello Ms vita. I met you at the Druid Hill Park Health fair last summer and love your sweet potato muffins. I am just getting around to making them today and they are very good! I am very excited about trying other things as this was pretty simple and I had just about everything already so didnt have to buy much of anything to make them. I am tryig to explore foods that will help with weight, healthier heart and anxiety. I welcome any direction or suggestions in these areas. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for this note, Trina, and for sharing your experience making the muffins. I love recipes that are easy to prepare and that are made with ingredients that are easy to find. In general, a diet high in fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts and minimally processed foods is a diet that will help you lose weight, maintain a healthy weight and maintain a healthier heart. Exercise is a major factor in losing or maintaining a healthy weight and healthy heart and helps alleviate stress and anxiety. I’ll have to do a little more research to learn about foods that help with anxiety. If you are interested in more vegan recipes like the one for my sweet potato muffins, I suggest googling “vegan _(whatever you want to make)__.”
